Board Treasurer Jeremy Hostetler honored with award from Rotary

Congratulations to our board treasurer Jeremy Hostetler for being recognized by Rotary with a Paul Harris Fellow Award.
Justin had the honor of presenting Jeremy with this award at a recent Rotary meeting. Here is the introduction Justin read at the meeting:
I’ve known Jeremy for the last ten years, the first five serving alongside him as a board member of Community Transportation Network and the latter five partnering with him as the executive director.
Next month, he will begin his 17th year of service to CTN. I often quip he’s the reason I argue against term limits for our organization. He’s served as our President (2014- 2017), Vice President (2011 – 2014), and Treasurer since 2017.
As Board President, he guided the organization through the purchase of our first facility, moving us from expensive lease arrangements to stability through property ownership. In the same term, Jeremy and the governance committee created the organization’s planned and emergency succession policies, creating further stability for the future of the organization.
As Treasurer, Jeremy guided our board, me, and my leadership team through the constant changes related to Covid restrictions and funding opportunities. He helped us be in the best position to support the community as we came out of the pandemic. He remained on top of changing requirements to keep CTN in the best possible position.
As much as he’s been a Treasurer for the organization, he has sought to teach and inform other board members on the financial status of CTN. Consistently, as board members express an inexperience in understanding financials, he goes the extra mile to put his reports into simple language. He’s helped numerous board members understand how to read our financial statements and how to make informed decisions and how to ask important questions. Best of all, this doesn’t happen in a formal way. Instead, it takes place informally in the way he leads and communicates.
This gift of knowledge will truly have a lasting impact on our organization.
One of the greatest challenges of board members is often connecting their network with an organization for the purpose of philanthropy. Jeremy has never shied away from connecting his clients, friends, or family to CTN. More donors have come to CTN through Jeremy than any other board member. He’s embraced our mission of Driving Community and shares that passion every day.
To be honest, his impact on CTN and our riders is enough to be truly deserving of a Paul Harris.
However, his community involvement goes beyond CTN. He’s engaged with his church, his alma mater, Huntington University, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
We don’t have examples of Jeremy in the media, or special awards, because he shies away from that. He doesn’t like the spotlight – though he deserves it.
In his professional life, Jeremy serves our community as a successfully sought-after CPA at Christen Souers. He’s highly informed on tax codes and procedures and works hard to help his clients benefit from that knowledge. This includes specialty tax incentives and programs at both the state and federal levels.
As I consider individuals who live out Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self, Jeremy Hostetler is at the top of the list. The work he’s done, even in his professional career, has never been in the service of himself, but in the service of others.
